Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about QR code generation, analytics, and our platform features.

Do QR codes expire?

Not on their own — a QR code has no expiry date. What people mean by an expired QR code is a dynamic one whose provider switched the redirect off when a trial or subscription ended. TheQRCode.io does not do that: if your subscription ends your dynamic codes keep redirecting, and all but one become read-only, so the only thing you lose is the ability to change where they point. Static codes were never at risk either way, here or anywhere else, because there is no redirect behind them to switch off.

What happens to my QR codes if my subscription ends?

They keep working. Every code you have printed carries on redirecting to wherever it already points; nothing is deleted and no code is switched off. The account returns to the free plan, so one dynamic code stays editable and the rest become read-only — still scannable, still redirecting, just not editable until you subscribe again. Scans above the free plan's 1,000 a month still redirect, they simply stop being recorded, and the dashboard shows the last 30 days. Your earlier scan history is kept and comes back if you subscribe again.

Which of my dynamic codes stays editable if my subscription ends?

The one with the most scans. When an account returns to the free plan we keep the single most-scanned dynamic code editable and lock the rest, on the assumption that it is the one your printed materials depend on most. Your dashboard shows a banner listing every locked code and lets you pick a different one to keep editable instead. That choice can be made once while the account is on the free plan. Locked codes are never deleted and never stop redirecting, and resubscribing unlocks all of them and restores the choice.

What types of QR codes can I create?

You can create various types of QR codes including URL QR codes, WiFi QR codes, Contact (vCard) QR codes, Text QR codes, and Email QR codes. Each type is designed for specific use cases and provides different functionality when scanned.

How do QR code analytics work?

Our analytics track when and where your QR codes are scanned, providing insights into scan counts, geographic locations, device types, and timing patterns. This data helps you understand your audience and optimize your QR code campaigns for better results.

Is there a free plan available?

Yes! We offer a free plan that includes 10 QR codes and 1,000 scans per month. This is perfect for trying out our platform and for small personal projects. You can upgrade to paid plans for more features and higher limits.

Can I customize the appearance of my QR codes?

Absolutely! Our paid plans include customization options such as custom colors, frame styles (square, rounded, circle, dashed), and logo embedding. You can also choose from different sizes to fit your design needs.

How secure is my data?

We take security seriously and use enterprise-grade encryption to protect your data. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and we follow industry best practices for data protection and privacy compliance.

Can I track QR codes created before upgrading?

Yes! When you upgrade your plan, you'll gain access to analytics for all your existing QR codes. Your historical data will be preserved and you'll be able to see analytics going forward for all your QR codes.

What file formats can I download my QR codes in?

You can download your QR codes in PNG format on all plans. Pro plan also supports SVG and PDF formats, giving you more flexibility for different use cases and print requirements.

What is the Developer plan?

The Developer plan ($19/mo) is Headless Pro: you get the same full analytics, all QR code types, and the same API rate limits as Pro, but everything is managed through code rather than a visual dashboard. There is no bulk management UI, no real-time visual charts, and no CSV/SVG/PDF export UI. Instead you get a dev console with API keys, usage counters, and docs. You also get all three MCP tools (generate, list_qr_codes, get_analytics), 500,000 scans/month, 5,000 API req/hr, and a sandbox environment plus webhooks. If you manage QR codes through code, choose Developer. If you manage them through a browser, choose Pro.

Do you offer API access?

Yes! Both the Developer plan ($19/mo) and the Pro plan ($29/mo) include authenticated API access at 5,000 req/hr. The Developer plan is specifically designed for API-first use. It gives you full analytics via the API, all three MCP tools (including list_qr_codes and get_analytics), and a sandbox environment, with no visual dashboard. The Pro plan gives you the same API limits alongside the full visual dashboard and MCP generate tool. All plans also include the public API at 100 req/hr with no authentication required.

Can I use QR codes for marketing campaigns?

Absolutely! QR codes are excellent for marketing campaigns. You can track campaign performance, A/B test different QR codes, and gain insights into customer behavior. Our analytics help you measure ROI and optimize your marketing efforts.

What happens if I exceed my plan limits?

Your QR codes keep redirecting; we do not switch anything off. Past the monthly scan limit, scans simply stop being recorded until the limit resets on the 1st or you upgrade. Past the code limit you cannot create new codes until you delete one or upgrade, but every existing code keeps working.

Can I export my analytics data?

It depends on your plan. Pro plan users can export analytics as CSV directly from the visual dashboard. Developer plan users access the same analytics data programmatically via the get_analytics API and MCP tool, with no CSV export UI, but full data access through code. Starter and Free plan users do not have data export.

How do I get support?

Free plan users can access our knowledge base and community support. Starter plan users get email support, while Pro plan users receive priority support with faster response times.

Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes, you can cancel at any time from the billing portal, and your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period. Then the account returns to the free plan. Cancel and every code you have already printed keeps redirecting to wherever it points — we never switch off a code to force an upgrade. The account drops to the free plan, so one dynamic code stays editable and the rest become read-only: still scannable, still redirecting, you just cannot change where they go until you subscribe again. Nothing is deleted.
